Western United set for first home game

Western United are set to make more history this weekend when they play their first home game in the Hyundai A-League.

The Green and Black will take on reigning premiers Perth Glory in the historic fixture at Geelong’s GMBHA Stadium – one of the club’s two home grounds for the 2019/20 season.

And after an opening round win for the A-League new boys, it’s set up to be an enticing clash.

United got off to the perfect start in the competition, defeating Wellington Phoenix 1-0 on the road thanks to a first half Besart Berisha goal.

The A-League’s all-time top scorer added to his goal tally, which now stands at 107 in 187 appearances.

Mark Rudan’s side remarkably became just the fifth in A-League history to win their first game, and only the second expansion side to do so.

Perth however, who are coming off a 1-1 draw with Brisbane, will provide another test for United.

The Glory looked like sealing all three points in round 1 until Brisbane’s Roy O’Donovan snatched a late equaliser.

Western United face Perth this Saturday, October 19 at 5.00 PM AEDT.
