Want to be part of history? Then be in Ballarat this Saturday for a huge and historic clash for Western United in the Hyundai A-League.

The Green and Black, currently third on the A-League ladder, will head to MARS Stadium for a big round 12 clash against one of the most improved sides in the league, Wellington Phoenix.

In doing so, United become the first team in A-League history to host a game in Ballarat.

United already have some experience in the city, however.

The Green and Black played two pre-season friendlies earlier this year at Morshead Park against Adelaide United and Sydney FC.

But the round 12 clash will be for competition points, with United looking to make it two from two against the Nix. Round 1 saw United run out 1-0 winners in Wellington after Besart Berisha scored the club’s first ever A-League goal.

Last Friday night’s Green and Black goal hero Aaron Calver telling the Ballarat Courier he’s super-excited for his side to be in Ballarat for such a big game.

“Our region includes Geelong and Ballarat. Ballarat is a big breeding ground for talent and they love their football there. We’re ready to show them what we can do.”

Calver’s super header stunned Western Sydney Wanderers at Bankwest stadium in Parramatta last Friday night. His late equaliser gave United a 1-1 draw, making it three games unbeaten for Mark Rudan’s men.

“We’re very positive. No matter what happens, if we go behind we know we’ll always come back. The last three games have shown we’re definitely contenders,” the big defender said.

“We’re a team that’s very hard to break down.

“But also we have players like Alessandro Diamanti, Panagiotis Kone and Berisha that can just turn a game in a moment. We’re very exciting, but also very disciplined.

“And this will be another game to show our quality. Can’t wait to get back to Ballarat,” added Calver.
