After one of the longest off-seasons in world football, the A-League and Western United are set to return in just a few days.

Looking to build off a semi-final berth in their inaugural season, Western United begin their 2020/21 campaign on 28 December against Adelaide United at GMHBA Stadium, Geelong.

The Green and Black’s form in Geelong was solid in 2019/20, winning four games and drawing once in eight games.

Mark Rudan’s side also managed to score 16 goals at GMHBA Stadium, at an average of two goals a match.

Round 1 will be the first time United and the Reds meet in Geelong, after clashing last season at VU Whitten Oval in Footscray and Coopers Stadium in Adelaide.

There were 13 goals scored across the two matches, and each team picked up a win each.

In round 16 at VU Whitten Oval, Adelaide ran out 4-3 winners in one of the games of the season.

United clawed their way back from 3-1 down to level the scores in the second half, but the Reds found a late winner to snatch all three points.

The Green and Black restored parity in round 22 however with a win that would kick start a rich vein of form heading towards finals.

Josh Risdon recorded three assists in the 5-1 road win, which saw United leapfrog Adelaide on the table.
