Western United Football Club signs former Wanderers’ captain Brendan Hamill

Western United Football Club (WUFC) is delighted to announce the signing of Brendan Hamill, the 26- year-old former Western Sydney Wanderers’ captain, as the club continues to unveil its list of star talent ahead of its debut season.

Hamill (b. 18 September 1992) has played over 130 games in the Hyundai A-League and 3 seasons in South Korea.

The big defender helps to fill another vital gap in WUFC’s recruitment for its inaugural Hyundai A-League season.

On his appointment, Hamill said that the club’s vision and goals were one of the main reasons he de- cided to take the opportunity and make the move back to Melbourne where he once played.

“After speaking to the coaches and staff at Western United, I was really impressed on how they are planning to make a huge impact in their first season of the A-League starting in October.

“Having played in Melbourne a few years ago, my wife and I cannot wait to get back to start pre-season. I was a young teenager when I first arrived in Melbourne.”

“I’ve matured a lot having played in South Korea for a number of seasons and then taking up a leadership role at the Wanderers. I’m also really excited to play alongside Ersan Gulum!”

WUFC assistant coach John Anastasiadis said Hamill’s experience is a great asset to the club.

“Securing Brendan now enables us to have a really good mix of experienced and younger central de- fenders to form the foundation of our backline. Brendan along with Josh Risdon, Aaron Calver, Jonathan Aspropotamitis and Ersan Gulum is a fantastic group of defenders for our new Club.

“I, along with my fellow coach John Anastasiadis and the rest of our staff, cannot wait to get started working with these players in July”.

WUFC will join the Hyundai A-League from the start of the 2019/20 season beginning in October this year.
