Western United signs Western-Melbourne born defender

Western United Football Club is delighted to announce Western Melbourne-born central defender Tomi Uskok has joined the club on an 18-month deal.

Uskok, 28, links with the Green and Black from NPL NSW club Sydney United.

United’s new signing is West through and through, having been born in Williamstown before growing up in Werribee. He still has family residing in the heart of Melbourne’s West in Point Cook and Hopper’s Crossing.

The defender, formerly of Melbourne Knights, has experience with Central Coast Mariners in the 2015/16 Hyundai A-League season. At the Gosford club, Uskok played alongside former Liverpool great Luis Garcia.

Uskok, provides the Green and Black with excellent defensive cover after this week’s departure of central defender Ersan Gulum, who has moved back to the Turkish Super Lig, and injuries to Brendan Hamill and Aaron Calver.

“Excited to be a part of it, and back in the A-League and working under a coach like Mark Rudan. I’m really looking forward to that,” Uskok said.

Western United head coach Mark Rudan was happy to have added to his squad’s defensive stocks.

“We’re delighted to give another NPL talent a chance to show what he can do at the highest level.

“Tomi is a local west Melbourne product, which makes for a great story and it’s important for our club.

“Having worked with Tomi before he has all the attributes to contribute to our club and we’re looking forward to seeing Tomi make the most of this opportunity with us,” said Rudan.

Uskok joins Oskar Dillon as Western United’s second signing this January.

Western United’s next home game is on Sunday, 26 January against Adelaide United at VU Whitten Oval.
