Western United youngsters Jake Najdovski and Luke Vickery have been named in the 28-man Young Socceroos squad for an upcoming training camp in New South Wales.
This represents a first call-up to the Young Socceroos for both players, representative of the quality they showed at Western United this season.
Having joined the Western United Academy in its inaugural year in 2021, Najdovski made his professional debut in the Australia Cup last year before making six appearances in the Isuzu UTE A-League Men in 2024.
Vickery featured four times in John Aloisi’s senior squad this season and impressed with his direct style of play in the final third.
At 19 and 18 years of age respectively, Najdovski and Vickery have been in fine form to begin this year’s VPL 1 Men’s season, as well.
Najdovski has scored six goals in seven matches while Vickery has found the net four times in seven games himself.
Western United General Manager of Football Mal Impiombato shared his delight for the players as well as his pride in the Club’s ever-growing youth system.
“Jake and Luke have been two of our standout young players and we are extremely proud to see them earning worthy national team recognition,” he said.
“Both players impress our staff equally with their talent and their behaviour, with work ethic and ambition that we believe will hold them in good stead for the future.
“It is a testament to the work of our Academy staff that our young players are achieving success, so I also congratulate them for their role in this.
“It’s been a significant year for young talents at our Club, and we wish Jake and Luke all the best while looking forward to hopefully seeing more opportunities for our players in the future.”
The Young Socceroos will come together under head coach Trevor Morgan in Blacktown for a three-day camp ahead of a busy period of matches coming up.
Najdovski and Vickery will join up with the team after a huge VPL 1 Men’s match against Melbourne Victory on Sunday, kicking off at 10am AEST at Ironbark Fields in Tarneit.
