Western United to introduce first Girls Development Centre

Western United A-League Women

Western United will continue to grow its Academy program with the introduction of the inaugural Girls Development Centre in Term 1 of 2024.

Experiencing great success with the Boys Development Centre throughout 2023, the Club is delighted to extend this program to talented female footballers born between 2008 and 2012.

Alongside its relationship with Calder United in NPLW Victoria, Western United is staying committed to providing opportunities for young girls, particularly from the West, to chart their journey towards becoming professional footballers.

Western United General Manager Academy and Community Anthony Frost hailed this as the vital next step in the continued growth of the Academy.

“We have undergone significant growth in our Academy program over the past 12-18 months, but we would never be a full Academy until incorporating females into our family,” he said.

“The Club has had great success in the Liberty A-League Women space over the past couple of years and we are dedicated to continuing to give talented young girls the chance to shine.

“We are eager to continue to aid the growth of women’s football in Australia and we look forward to the benefits this program will have for many young girls in the West.”

Following the trial session, selected players will partake in an eight-week program with sessions each Friday delivered by Western United Academy coaches and focusing on a range of technical and tactical football components.

The final week of the term will involve a gala day for the players to celebrate the work throughout the term with fun and competitive games.

Western United adds new intake for Boys Development Centre

With the new year upon us, Western United will also open up for a new intake in its Boys Development Centre for Term 1.

The Boys Development Centre saw a significant promotion rate into Western United’s Junior Academy teams for 2024, making this program the true first step to joining the Green and Black pathway.

New players are invited to trial from next week and may attend one or two sessions, depending on individual preference.
