Western United will open up 2024 with a massive Isuzu UTE A-League Men home match against crosstown rivals Melbourne City at AAMI Park on Sunday 7 January.
This clash will be a monster rematch of the Round 1 thriller between the two rivals where Western United came out victorious.
Lachie Wales opened the scoring on that day before Noah Botic slotted a dramatic late penalty to secure a 2-1 win on the opening day of the season.
That was yet another in a long list of incredible matches between Western United and Melbourne City, who have been United’s most common opponents in the Isuzu UTE A-League so far.
Over 14 meetings, the Green and Black has picked up five big wins – none bigger than the historic Grand Final triumph in May 2022.
Following on from the Christmas period and looking back at the fabulous 2-1 win against Brisbane Roar a fortnight ago, John Aloisi’s men will be hoping to build confidence and carry on a strong record at AAMI Park.
Since Aloisi took over in 2021, Western United has won 14 of its 26 matches played at AAMI Park, with just eight losses in comparison. Of those 14 wins, eight have come in home matches and four have been against Melbourne City.
City themselves will hoping to ride some momentum with a current six-game unbeaten run in all competitions, and this match coming as the third of four straight matches that they will play at AAMI Park.
Tickets for this mouth-watering contest will go on sale from 2pm Thursday 28 December via ticketek.com.au. Bring in the new year with Western United and get behind the boys in green.
