Western United welcomes all to Celebrate Africa at Ironbark Fields

Western United Celebrate Africa with African Cup of Nations Victoria, Africa Day Australia and African Football Victoria

Western United will welcome one and all to Celebrate Africa at Ironbark Fields with a unique matchday experience and event on Saturday 7 December.

The Isuzu UTE A-League Men Round 7 fixture against Macarthur FC will be a celebration of African culture featuring curtain-raiser matches, traditional food and performances.

The women’s and men’s African Cup of Nations Victoria Grand Finals will be hosted at Ironbark Fields in collaboration with host organisations Africa Day Australia (ADA) and African Football Victoria (AFV).

The event unites thousands of people from all African backgrounds each year and is a true celebration of the unique cultures that create some of the most vibrant, colourful and positive sections of our community.

The women’s match will kick off at 12:00pm AEDT before the men’s game at 2:00pm, with Western United vs Macarthur kicking off at 6pm.

This year, the African Cup of Nations Victoria takes place in the heart of western Melbourne and will head to the region’s new home of entertainment at Ironbark Fields for the first time in 2024.

The tournament brings thousands of people together across multiple weekends, highlighting the passion and togetherness of the African community in Victoria.

The respective Grand Finals will open the gates at Ironbark Fields to a brand-new audience, but it won’t just be the football on display that brings the community together.

There will be a festival atmosphere across the whole day with authentic music and dance performances as well as food trucks and market stalls to highlight each unique African culture.

Fun activities for the kids will take place around the ground with everything leading up towards kick off for Western United’s Isuzu UTE A-League clash against Macarthur.

That match will be a repeat of the Club’s first ever men’s match in Tarneit where an incredible comeback secured a 4-2 win in front of the home fans at Ironbark Fields.

It’s going to be an incredible day of festivities, celebration and family strength and we can’t wait to see you all down to Celebrate Africa at Ironbark Fields.

ADA President Qiniso Dube and the AFV Committee said:

“Africa Day Australia and African Football Victoria are thrilled to showcase the unifying power of football across Victoria.

“We look forward to building and strengthening our connection with the residents of Wyndham and with Western United.

“We warmly invite all football enthusiasts to join us at the Celebrate Africa match day 7 December 2024.”
