Western United’s Liberty A-League Women side will embark on its first pre-season training camp as a squad with a weekend-long trip to Ballarat.

The highlight of the camp will be a friendly and Round 1 preview against Melbourne Victory at Morshead Park, with kick-off at 2pm on Saturday November 5.

The match will be open to the public free of charge, meaning Western United fans can get a glimpse of the brand-new squad for the first time.

This game will also be the first that Head Coach Mark Torcaso will take charge of against another Liberty A-League team, meaning it will be a crucial test ahead of the campaign proper.

There will be plenty of intrigue around the contest as it comes exactly two weeks before the two sides compete in the blockbuster opening fixture of the 2022/23 Liberty A-League season.

Both teams will be on the lookout for strengths and weaknesses on the other side ahead of the competitive opener but will also strive for a psychological advantage with a win so close to the season’s beginning.

The friendly, and the training camp, continues the significant support from the City of Ballarat for both Western United and for women’s football.

The Green and Black has held games in the region since its first season in the Isuzu UTE A-League Men competition and will add a pair of Liberty A-League games in 2022/23.

The City of Ballarat also staged the inaugural Western United Cup at the end of September and the beginning of October, bringing around 2,000 people to Morshead Park as 35 teams of talented young girls competed for supremacy across seven divisions.

Now, Western United’s loyal supporters in the region will be treated to another grand occasion, an historic day being United’s first official friendly match.

The squad will be available to meet fans, take pictures and sign autographs after the match to thank everyone for their support on the day.

Tickets are now on sale for United’s Round 1 clash against Victory. Dreams only begin once, so don’t miss out on your chance to witness history. Be there for a momentous day in the West.
