It’s official – Western United’s first-ever home match at the Regional Football Facility in Tarneit is locked in for Sunday 17 March.
Kat Smith and the Liberty A-League Women side will take on Newcastle Jets at 4pm in an historic moment for Western United and for Australian football.
To celebrate the opening of the Club’s new home in Tarneit, Western United will encourage everyone in the West to share in the special occasion, with Executive Chairman Jason Sourasis calling on supporters to snap up their tickets before supply is exhausted.
“Sunday can’t come soon enough for us, and I am eagerly awaiting the moment when we truly arrive in our home in Tarneit,” he said.
“We have been working hard to ensure we are ready to create a fantastic event for our players, fans and the viewers at home.
“With the assistance of Wyndham City Council, we intend on making every game in Tarneit an event that the local community can attend and be proud of.
“Like all homes, we will move in and feel out what suits us best and continue to invest in the precinct to create the best possible atmosphere for our members and fans.”
For this first A-Leagues match, the main pavilion will be officially opened by Wyndham City Mayor Councillor Jennie Barrera before being filled with the most loyal of the Green and Black family.
Platinum and A-League Women members will take their place in the pavilion, with General Admission ticketing available for the fans and community of the West to snap up and be part of football history.
“It was a non-negotiable for us that we’d get our girls a home fixture at Tarneit,” Sourasis said.
“Kat Smith and the team have been doing an incredible job, and we urge everyone in the West to come out and get a taste of the best female footballers in the country playing in their backyard.”
“We are all delighted to bring our team and our members and stakeholders to only the second rectangular stadium in Victoria that is compliant for both A-League Men and Women matches.”
The release of tickets will be staggered from Thursday morning, allowing Western United’s Platinum members the first opportunity to purchase, followed by A-League Women, Liberty Pass and Flexi members.
All other Western United members will also be given the opportunity to secure their ticket before the general public allocation goes on sale to conclude the process. Tickets will be available on ticketek.com.au.
Rising star and local Tarneit resident Avaani Prakash will benefit from just a five-minute drive to the new home, with the 17-year-old itching to get on the pitch.
“I’m extremely excited to play at our new home on Sunday, in my own neighbourhood in front of my new home community in Tarneit,” she said.
“My parents take me to the games, so they are probably the happiest that it is only a five-minute drive. I have loved calling Tarneit home and I can’t wait to see all the locals come out to support us.
“The whole team is looking forward to Sunday and to starting to make Tarneit a Green and Black fortress to really build a home ground advantage.”
This final home game of the season will be a crucial fixture for Western United as it hopes to maintain a top-two finish in the Liberty A-League to set up a guaranteed finals match at the Regional Football Facility next month.
