The Western United weekly wrap is a quick-fire summary of results from our NPL and women’s teams.
NPL – Western United Academy Teams
The senior NPL 3 team took on Melbourne Victory at Epping Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
For the most part of the match, United played an attacking brand of football and opened the scoring in the 26th minute through a wonderful Aguek strike. Although United enjoyed plenty of possession and were in control, Victory equalised three minutes before half time through Brooks locking both teams at 1-1 at half time.
The second half started with United again on the attack before a strong tackle from Havales as the last defender received his second yellow card at the 46th minute mark reducing Victory to ten men.
United continued their attacking style of play and hit the lead through Majok in the 61st minute. To Victory’s credit, they didn’t allow United to over-run them in the second half and finally broke through the resilient United defence through Wilson in the 88th minute to equalise and finish what was an overall entertaining match.
Under 21’s
Vaughan Coveny’s side set the tempo for the day with a hard fought match going down to Victory after a late freekick was expertly taken from 20 yards. The 2-3 loss was a highly entertaining match albeit not the result the team was hoping for. United’s goal scorer was Greg Siamoa with a brace.
