Matthew Grimaldi

Matthew Grimaldi became one of Western United’s great success stories in the 2023/24 season after signing his first professional deal out of the Academy.

Following on from his debut against Newcastle Jets in November 2023, Grimaldi scored his first A-League Men goal against Sydney FC a month later and went on to rack up 23 appearances and five goals in total.

The highlight moment was his go-ahead goal in United’s first-ever home game at Ironbark Fields in Tarneit against Macarthur, completing a stunning comeback and further punctuating Grimaldi’s stellar debut campaign.

That was the first of three goals in the final five matches as Grimaldi went on to win United’s Young Player of the Season award, giving the Green and Black faithful a first taste of the untapped potential he possesses.
