Western United has added youthful exuberance to its attacking stocks with the signing of forward Michael Ruhs from Central Coast Mariners until the end of the 2024/25 season.
The 20-year-old will add rapid pace and power into United’s front third, boosting the number of exciting options at the top of the pitch.
Ruhs’ athleticism has caught the eye across 43 appearances in the Isuzu UTE A-League Men for the Mariners and Macarthur FC, with his talent also taking him to the FIFA U-17 World Cup with the Joeys in 2019.
After sealing his move to the Green and Black, Ruhs said he is eager to get to work with his new teammates and contribute straight away.
“I’m excited for the new challenge and join the defending Champions,” he said.
“I can’t wait to work with a Socceroos legend in John Aloisi and learn a new exciting style of play. With a front line of talented players I’m keen to get myself involved.”
Western United Head Coach John Aloisi sees Ruhs as the perfect addition to United’s options in attack with his speed and dribbling ability.
“I’m really excited to bring Michael into our group and I am confident that he will provide a big boost to our squad now and into the future,” he said.
“We have a lot of pace up front and he only adds to that now, and I think our fans are going to be really excited to see him join us on the pitch.
“He already has these big qualities, but at the same time he is only 20 years of age so we’re looking forward to helping him reach his potential and thrive here in the West.”
Despite still being six months short of his 21st birthday, Ruhs has already gained significant experience at domestic and international level.
Ruhs also spent time training with English Premier League side Crystal Palace in 2019, further indicating the potential which he continues to show.
The young attacker will link up with his new teammates and hope to put himself in line for selection for Saturday’s clash against Adelaide United.
