Western United can confirm that Isuzu UTE A-League Men assistant coach John Anastasiadis will depart the Club after four memorable seasons.
Anastasiadis has been a highly valued member of the coaching team since he became the Club’s first ever football department signing in 2019, supporting two head coaches over the past four seasons.
Moving into coaching having enjoyed a storied playing career as a striker, Anastasiadis has particularly taken on a role in mentoring the Club’s attackers, working closely on the development of the likes of Noah Botic in this current Western United side.
Upon advising the Club of his decision, Anastasiadis reflected on his time at the Club and on the success that he has enjoyed in his role.
“I am extremely grateful for my time at Western United and I feel honoured to have been able to represent the Club for four seasons,” he said.
“I have been able to work with some incredible people and create memories and relationships that will last a lifetime.
“I will forever be proud to have been part of building Western United from the beginning and will always look back fondly on my time at the Club.”
Western United General Manager of Football Mal Impiombato hailed Anastasiadis’ impact on building the foundations of the Club.
“John has been an invaluable member of our football club since the Club’s inception. He played an influential part in setting the foundations and establishing the culture that is fundamental to our Club’s core values today,” he said.
“Whilst John contributed greatly to our football department, he was also well respected and admired by his peers and all at the Club. Clubs are built on their people and culture, and John exemplified everything that is important to our Club.
“John’s football knowledge and experience has played an integral part in our on-field achievements and Championship success last season, and we wish him every success with his next steps and future endeavours.”
Anastasiadis joined United from Bentleigh Greens in NPL Victoria, where he built a long list of accolades that included an NPL Premiership, two Championships and a Dockerty Cup title.
Across an eight-year spell at Bentleigh, Anastasiadis twice led the team to FFA Cup semi-finals in 2014 and 2018, ultimately falling just short against Isuzu UTE A-League opposition.
Transitioning into a professional environment, Anastasiadis has played a significant role in the growth of Western United on and off the field with his experience and coaching acumen.
Anastasiadis became an Isuzu UTE A-League Champion in 2022 and his impact will continue to be felt at the Club in the foundations that he helped set.
