Brazilian star Daniel Penha signs with United ahead of his A-League return

Western United is thrilled to announce the signing of highly talented and exhilarating playmaker, Daniel Penha.

The dynamic 24-year-old addition to United is set to bring an exciting blend of skill and pace to the squad ahead of the 2023/24 Isuzu Ute A-League Men season.

United has pipped their rivals in obtaining Penha’s signature after he was highly sought after by several other A-League clubs.

Penha heads to United on a one-year deal, where he will come on loan from Brazilian giants and parent club Atletico Mineiro after departing Daegu FC last season, where he made 11 appearances for the Korean outfit.

In 2021/22 Penha was a dominant force in the A-League playing 23 matches for the Newcastle Jets and lighting up the league with his exceptional ability and flair.

With remarkable technical prowess, mesmerising ball control, and a keen eye for precise passing, Penha has impressed football fans and experts throughout his young career. His lightning-fast footwork and incredible vision on the field make him an asset for any team fortunate enough to have him.

General Manager Football Mal Impiombato believes the acquisition of Penha exemplifies United’s energetic and forward-thinking approach for the upcoming season.

“We have maintained contact with Daniel and monitored his progress since departing the A-League in 2021/22.

“We are well aware of Penha’s immense potential and actively pursued his signature to reinforce the squad ahead of our 23/24 campaign. Importantly for our club, we know we are bringing in a fantastic character and individual as well as talented footballer, so we are delighted to have him on board.

“He’s the kind of player that gets people through the gates – he gets football fans excited and brings new fans to the sport with his dynamic attacking flair.

“He lit up the A-League during his first season in 2021/22 and we anticipate he will provide that added quality in our front third to complement our existing structure.

“We look forward to him helping strengthen our on-field performance and also building our brand in the West.”

Penha expressed his enthusiasm for the new chapter in his career with United.

“I’ve always followed Western United games, it was beautiful to see how much the team played together and made it difficult for the opponents.

“Now I’m happy to team up with everyone to have a great season. It’s a young club, but it reached the top by conquering the A-League, that was one of the attractions for me to join the team.

“I’m ready to join the team and be able to bring joy to the fans again, winning many victories and titles and taking the club to the top again, to put more and more fans inside the stadiums.”

Head Coach John Aloisi welcomes Daniel aboard, in anticipation of his significant impact.

“Daniel’s ability and flair is no secret to anyone in football and I’m delighted to welcome him to the squad.

“His discernible passion for the game and ruthless desire to win is just so innate to his character.

“He’s exactly the kind of footballer we want representing our Club.”

Penha adds to an already impressive list of men’s signings for United with Angus Thurgate, James Donachie, Kane Vidmar, Thomas Heward-Belle and Matthew Sutton already in full swing of pre-season.

Football fans and sporting enthusiasts in the west of Victoria are encouraged to get on board the Green and Black to be part of witnessing Penha’s exploits on the field in the Isuzu Ute 2023/24 A-League Men Season.
