Chloe Lincoln has achieved a spectacular milestone in her young career, earning her first call-up to the Matildas squad in the upcoming FIFA international window.
The 19-year-old goalkeeper joined Western United this off-season having already made her name known around the country.
Lincoln has consistently represented Australia at Under-20 and Under-23 level, attending two FIFA U20 Women’s World Cups including the most recent edition last month.
After learning of this landmark achievement, Lincoln is still pinching herself and is ready to embark on this opportunity.
“I don’t know if I can sum it up, to be honest. I’m just feeling over the moon – so excited, nervous. All these emotions come to mind when I’m trying to describe it, but I can’t wait to get in there,” she said.
“I saw the email and I was like, ‘oh my god’ and I totally freaked out. I was a bit teary, even speaking to mum and dad on the phone it was pretty emotional.
“This is what you dream of for so long, this is the pinnacle for everyone. I just couldn’t believe it. I’m just hoping to learn as much as possible, enjoy the experience and embrace it.”
Western United General Manager of Football Mal Impiombato expressed his delight and is confident this is only the beginning for Lincoln.
“Chloe has had an immediate impact during her short period here we could not be more thrilled for her to receive her first call-up to the Matildas,” he said.
“Her personality, determination and ability have shone through since her arrival and have further confirmed our strong desire and intention in the off-season to bring her to Ironbark Fields.
“Her form in the Ninja A-League Women and in the junior national teams has led her to this moment and we are incredibly excited to see her perform on the biggest stage.
“Everyone at the Club wishes Chloe and the team the very best in camp and we are looking forward to continuing to strengthen her development at Western United.”
Lincoln will join her Matildas teammates in camp from next week as Tom Sermanni begins his reign as interim head coach with friendly matches against Switzerland and Germany.
Chloe’s teammates, coaches and the entire Western United staff will be behind her and wishing her all the very best as she embarks on this next step in her career.
