Easter turns Green & Black with the return of the Macca’s Festival of Football

Western United Festival of Football

Western United will return to Tasmania for another action-packed Macca’s Festival of Football this April, with McDonald’s back on board as the naming rights partner.

After the success of United’s first tour to Tasmania in the 2020/21 season, the Club is looking forward to showcasing two Isuzu UTE A-League Mens matches plus lots more football fan fun at the 2022 festival.

Western United CEO Chris Pehlivanis said the support McDonald’s showed during the inaugural Festival of Football was exceptional and he was delighted that the community minded company was back on board.

“We’re delighted to have Macca’s partnering with us again for the Festival of Football.  They understand collaboration and the spirit of football – we can’t wait to go again this year,” he said.

“The first Macca’s Festival of Football was an amazing celebration of football in Tasmania, and the entire community got involved and really embraced Western United.

“We’re really looking forward to seeing that happen again and we can’t wait until April when we can see all our great fans in Launceston again.”

McDonald’s Market Director for Tasmania, Brad McMullen, said: “Macca’s is passionate about playing an active role in local communities and supporting grassroots football across Australia.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with Western United and help bring the Festival of Football to Tasmania for a second year.”

Head Coach John Aloisi said he was looking forward to travelling to Tasmania to play in front of United’s loyal apple isle fans.

“The squad is keen to head back to Tassie,” Aloisi said.

“It’s a place that loves football and is crying out for more, and we’re really fortunate to be able to give that to the fans.

“I’ve no doubt UTAS Stadium will be full of Green and Black with Tasmanian’s coming out in numbers to support us, I can’t wait to meet them.

“April is a crucial time of the season for us and we see UTAS as our home, so it will be a big advantage for us against our opponents.”

The Macca’s Festival of Football will kick off on April 15, with Launceston set to host several fun community events including a family fun day, open training, autograph sessions and a host of football action with two big clashes against Perth Glory and Macarthur FC.

Calder United’s senior women’s team will once again make the trip to play at UTAS Stadium in a curtain-raiser fixture, giving Mark Torcaso’s side an extra bit of match preparation in the early part of the NPLW Victoria season.

The Glory match is scheduled for Saturday April 16 before United face the Bulls on Tuesday April 19, with both fixtures set to kick off at 5:05pm at UTAS Stadium.

Western United fans can be part of all the action with the Tasmania Superpass which grants access to matches and events.
