Most clean sheets and least goals conceded

Jamie Young was the only player across the entire league to play every single minute of the A-League Men season and proved pivotal in goal for Western United on a number of occasions.

United kept seven clean sheets in the 2021/22 season but Young and the rest of the defence ensured that record would be broken, too, with 10 clean sheets both a club record and a league-high this season.

United’s goals against tally of 30 was also the best result in the Club’s three seasons so far, bettering the total of 37 from season one.

Biggest ever winning margin

That aforementioned 6-0 win over Perth Glory not only took United past 40 points for the first time in its history, but it also became the Club’s biggest ever winning margin.

It was a tight affair in the opening 20 minutes before Lachie Wales found the breakthrough, netting twice in as many minutes just before the half hour mark.

Dylan Pierias added a third soon after and Wales became just the second United player to score a hat-trick when he bagged a third before half-time.

The rout continued into the second half as Aleksandar Prijovic converted a penalty and Dylan Wenzel-Halls added a sixth to make it a landmark night for the Club in Tasmania.

Most ever 1-0 wins in a single season

Western United’s early season form was particularly influenced by the side’s defensive stability which saw the Green and Black break a bit of a different all-time A-League Men record.

Aloisi’s men won seven games by a score line of 1-0, the most that any team has achieved by that exact score in a single season.

The wins included two against Melbourne City and one against Sydney FC, though at a later date there were two goals added to United’s total in that game due to Sydney having breached a rule pertaining to substitutes.

Youngest ever goalscorer

Dylan Pierias was just under a month shy of his 21st birthday when he netted his first A-League Men goal in January 2021, becoming United’s youngest ever goal scorer at the time.

That record stood for just over a year before Nicolas Milanovic scored his maiden Western United goal on February 1, opening the scoring in a 2-2 draw with Macarthur FC.

Milanovic was 20 years, 79 days old when he scored that goal, some 259 days younger than Pierias was when he found the net. Adisu Bayew had a chance to break the record again, but he was just 10 days too old when he found the net for his first goal against Brisbane Roar.
