Family friendly Boxing Day kick-off among Western United fixture updates

Western United A-League Men

As part of the Isuzu UTE A-League Men 2022/23 Season Fixture Updates confirmed by Australian Professional Leagues (APL), Western United can confirm three changes to matches for the remainder of the season.

The biggest change will see an earlier kick off time for United’s huge Boxing Day clash against Melbourne Victory, with the game now set to begin at 6:00pm AEDT.

The Battle on Boxing Day continues a new tradition that began last season when the sides met on December 26 for the first time.

This will also be the first league meeting between the two rivals since Western United’s famous semi-final victory at AAMI Park in May, and the Green and Black will be looking to make it three in a row against its rivals after a win in the Australia Cup in August.

Western United’s home match against Perth Glory on Saturday March 4 now has a confirmed venue, and it is good news for fans in Ballarat with an extra game coming to Mars Stadium.

With the Green and Black already scheduled to meet Newcastle Jets at Mars in mid-January, this will be the team’s second match in the region and will create a bumper weekend for the Club’s Ballarat fans.

After the men take centre stage at Mars Stadium, United’s Liberty A-League Women side will follow suit at Morshead Park on Sunday March 5 with a big home match against Sydney FC, allowing fans to watch elite men’s and women’s football across an action-packed weekend in Ballarat.

Ballarat also features in the third and final fixture change, with the Good Friday meeting on April 7 against Central Coast Mariners moving back to a 3pm kick-off.

This will be a repeat of the same fixture very nearly a year on to the day after the two sides played out a pulsating 2-2 draw at Mars Stadium in April this year.

This fixture update means that all of United’s Isuzu UTE A-League matches are set in stone, except for the final home match of the season against Melbourne City which will be confirmed in due course.
