Western United and Melbourne City will soon lock horns at AAMI Park in the biggest game of the year – a top of the table clash in the A-League Men.

Irrespective of what happens in preceding matches for either side, the Green and Black and the reigning champions will be the top two sides in the league ahead of the blockbuster clash next week.

Not only is this Western United’s final scheduled home match at AAMI Park, but it is one of the most important matches not only of this season, but in the Club’s entire history to date.

United will carry into this clash a very strong record against Melbourne City, with three wins in the last three meetings including two earlier in this season.

At the time of writing, United is three points ahead of City at the top of the table while still having a game in hand over its rivals.

Western United has achieved this on the back of a club-record unbeaten streak which currently stands at eight matches, out of which six have been wins including each of the last four.

Leo Lacroix continues to marshal the defence with Jamie Young immense in goal behind him, while Steven Lustica is enjoying some career-best form in the heart of United’s midfield.

Serbian striker Aleksandar Prijovic is fast developing into one of the league’s best attackers and has plenty more still to give, while a strong Australian contingent featuring a mix of youth and experience has United in a strong place.
