Grand Final rematch to kick off Western United’s Championship defence

The 2022/23 Isuzu UTE A-League Men fixture has been released and includes a mouthwatering season opener, with Western United set to lock horns with Melbourne City in a Grand Final rematch.

United defeated Melbourne City 2-0 in the 2021/22 decider and will return to AAMI Park to face Patrick Kisnorbo’s side in an away fixture on Friday October 7.

That will be the first of three consecutive games at AAMI Park to open the Green and Black’s campaign, with back-to-back home matches against Sydney FC and Macarthur FC on October 16 and 21 respectively.

The first away trip for John Aloisi’s side will be against Central Coast Mariners on Saturday October 29 before a return home against Adelaide United and a journey to New Zealand to face Wellington Phoenix, before the league breaks for the 2022 FIFA Men’s World Cup.

It will be a 27-day wait for United to return to action with an away day against Perth Glory on Sunday December 11 before the first home game back on Sunday December 18 against Western Sydney Wanderers.

United’s first meeting with Melbourne Victory will be a Boxing Day blockbuster, and the Green and Black army will be hoping for a late Christmas present in the form of three points over Tony Popovic’s side.

Aloisi’s men will face Victory again on Monday March 13, while two further meetings with Melbourne City are scheduled for Saturday January 7 and Saturday April 22, the latter falling on the penultimate weekend of the regular season.

The Green and Black will return to Ballarat with two games currently scheduled at Mars Stadium, on Sunday January 15 against Newcastle Jets and Friday April 7 against Central Coast Mariners.

The season will take another break for international fixtures in the final week of March before returning for a grandstand month in April with five matches to end the home and away campaign, including a Good Friday meeting with the Mariners and the popular away trip to Adelaide United.

United’s final match will be a second trip west-side to face Perth on Friday April 28, at which point Aloisi will be hoping to lead his side into the Finals Series in May.

The Club looks forward to confirming its remaining home fixtures as soon as possible leading in towards the beginning of the season.
