Western United takes on Melbourne City this Sunday at GMHBA Stadium, Geelong in the club’s first-ever Victorian derby.
And it is shaping up to be a blockbuster.
United Head Coach Mark Rudan has said that his side will bring their second-half performance from last week to the derby against City.
City meanwhile is coming off two games against Adelaide United in the past seven days.
Erick Mombaerts’ side defeated the Reds 2-1 at AAMI Park last Sunday, before going down 4-0 in the FFA Cup final on Wednesday night.
Key stats ahead of the historic Victorian derby:
- Western United are undefeated after their first two A-League matches (W1, D1); only Adelaide United (W4, D2) and Gold Coast United (W3) have begun their A-League tenure with longer unbeaten runs.
- Western United have recorded the most shots on target from outside the box (8) of any team in the 2019/20 A-League season, at least double the amount of any other side.
- Besart Berisha (Western United) has scored the most goals (5) of any player at GMHBA Stadium in the A-League; indeed, he is the only player in the competition to have scored multiple goals there.
- Panagiotis Kone (Western United) is the equal fourth for chances created (5) in the A-League this season.
