Western United defender Leo Lacroix praised his teammates after the Club’s 1-0 win over Melbourne City on Saturday night.
The Swiss defender continued his imperious start to his Western United career, marshalling the defence alongside Tomoki Imai.
Lacroix led all players on the pitch with nine clearances and five interceptions and was named Man of the Match, but kept his praise for the entire team after a brilliant result.
“I’m happy. We did very well, with all my teammates, and it was important for us also to keep their score to nil. So, we did it, and congratulations to all the fans also and my teammates. Unbelievable,” he said.
In his first three weeks in the A-League Men competition, Lacroix encountered two Melbourne derby fixtures with this one coming after the season opener against Melbourne Victory.
The 29-year-old said he felt the players had a heightened desire to win the game given its importance, repaying the fans that came to support.
“We play against Melbourne City, it’s exciting to play these games. So I think we had something extra to play an unbelievable game,” he said.
Leo Lacroix has been in form for Western United
Lacroix has immediately settled into his new surroundings, already becoming a leader at the back and a key part of John Aloisi’s side.
United conceded 47 times across last season, with only bottom-placed Melbourne Victory shipping more goals throughout the campaign.
But Lacroix, along with a new set up under John Aloisi, has steadied the ship at the back, helping the side to two clean sheets and a league-best one goal conceded through the opening three rounds.
After Saturday night’s victory, United sits in third place on the Isuzu UTE A-League Men table in the season’s early goings, just a single point off top spot ahead of a clash against Brisbane Roar at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday December 11.
