NPL 2 Victoria Round 10
Western United vs Brunswick Juventus
Sunday, 23 April
Kick-off: 3:00pm AEST (Under 23’s), 5:30pm AEST (Under 21’s).
City Vista Pavilion and Sports Field, Plumpton
Last time out
Western United’s winning run in NPL 2 Victoria came to an end with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Langwarrin SC last time out.
Despite dominated much of the game and creating a number chances on goal, United could not overcome Langwarrin’s first-half goal.
The Under 21’s continued their superb start to the season with a 6-1 victory, a ninth straight in the season to remain top of the table.
Vaughan Coveny’s men have romped through the opening nine rounds with a perfect record and will hope to make it 10 in a row this weekend.
The Opponent
Brunswick Juventus have so far struggled to match their form from last season with a difficult start to the 2023 season.
Formerly known as Moreland Zebras, Brunswick Juventus were on the brink of promotion to the top flight last year, finishing in fourth place and just four points off the top two places.
This season, though, a run of just two wins in the opening nine rounds sees the team ranked second bottom on the table, level on seven points with last placed Melbourne City.
The Under 21’s have had a slightly better start with three wins so far, and they would relish the opportunity to kick start their season by ending United’s perfect run.
Calder United searching for consecutive wins against Boroondara Eagles
Fresh from picking up a first win of the season last weekend, Calder United will look to make it two in a row with an away trip to face Boroondara Eagles.
Boroondara have impressed in their first ever season in NPLW Victoria, sitting level on points with fellow newly-promoted side Preston Lions at the top of the table.
Kurea Okino has been the competition’s star player, scoring in every match to reach 10 goals already in just the opening five rounds.
Calder will need to keep tabs on Boroondara’s star attacker and will hope its attacking talents can find the net at the other end on route to an important win.
The Under 19’s competition has quite the opposite story, with Calder equal on points at the top and Boroondara further down with one win in the season so far.
