Tasmanian Show Your Colours winner dreams of Western United milestone

Western United Tasmania

Western United superfan Algesh Pradhan is setting his sights on becoming the first ever Tasmanian to play for Western United.

An Under 12’s player at Launceston United, Algesh won Western United’s Show Your Colours promotion at UTAS Stadium on Saturday April 19 at United’s match against Perth Glory, winning $1,500 for his club.

Speaking to the Club after winning the competition, Algesh detailed his passion for football and how hard he is working to ensure he can live out his dreams.

“Ever since I’ve been born it’s (football) just been my passion. I love soccer, my dad used to play soccer so I play soccer,” he said.

“I found it interesting and a really nice hobby, so I’m just going to follow my dreams and try to become pro.

“Definitely (I can be the first Tasmanian to play for the Club). I think as long as I keep on training as I’m training, keep on thinking positive and keep on going – I think if I work hard enough I’ll get there.”

Algesh has been supporting Western United since the Green and Black came to Launceston in 2021 and was a regular at all the major events across the 2022 Macca’s Festival of Football, meeting the players at open training and showing his support from the stands at UTAS Stadium on both match days.

“I love Western United because they’re a great team, they have a good atmosphere and I love all their players,” he said.

“I don’t have a favourite player, but my top three is probably Tomoki (Imai), Noah (Botic) and Leo (Lacroix). They’re all really good players and really nice.”

Algesh plays as an attacker and wakes up early in the morning to train every day as he chases his dreams of one day pulling on the Green and Black.

Just like the rest of United’s Tassie faithful, Algesh will eagerly await the Club’s return to UTAS Stadium next year and be ready to show his support once again.
