It’s official – Western United’s first-ever home match at the Regional Football Facility in Tarneit has been played.
Western United’s Liberty A-League Women were defeated in a tough battle by Newcastle Jets, 3-1 and while it wasn’t the result on the pitch we wanted, the result off the pitch was fantastic.
Across the day over 2,000 people came to our new home to be part of the official opening and enjoy a fantastic day of football fun. Kids met players, played on the football inflatables and supported their female football heroes. Fans left with memories, posters, stickers, exclusive merchandise and an appetite to come back for more as soon as possible.
Being only the second rectangular stadium in Victoria that can host A-League Women and Men matches, the community in the west got behind the first ever match and showing pride and excitement about the new A-League facility in their neighbourhood.
Former Socceroo and WUFC Director of Football Steve Horvat said:
“Thank you to everyone that came out today and supported the club. It was great to be able to celebrate the opening of our home in Tarneit together.
“This is just the beginning, I look forward to growing this great venue and club and building a football future that everyone in the west of Victoria can share.”
Western United co-captain and Matilda Chloe Logarzo was also impressed with the community’s excitement for female football.
“Today is an historic day for the club and for the Tarneit community. The turnout and the atmosphere was electric and the star of something that will be incredible for this community.
