Western United will face Melbourne City in the first ever all-Victorian edition of the A-League Men Grand Final, with the Club’s first piece of silverware on the line.

The showpiece game will take place on Saturday May 28, with kick-off set for 7:45pm at AAMI Park to bring this exciting campaign to a close.

United secured a thrilling semi-final win over Melbourne Victory after a 4-1 triumph in the second leg, while Melbourne City had to wait until extra time in their semi-final to come from behind to beat Adelaide United.

This will be the first time ever that the A-League Men Grand Final is played between two Victorian teams, continuing the dominance of the state in this year’s competition after all three club’s ended up in the top three positions on the ladder.

United will be fixtured as the away team due to Melbourne City’s higher finish in the regular season, but the Green and Black army will swarm to AAMI Park as it did for the semi-final to push the side on the pitch.

John Aloisi’s side had some memorable battles against Melbourne City during the regular season, with two wins and a draw as both sides fought at the top of the table for the majority of the campaign.

City ultimately usurped United in the Premier’s Plate race but the Green and Black will be looking to bounce back in the Grand Final.

After finishing third on the table, United has had to do it the hard way in the Finals series, coming through a tense Elimination Final against Wellington Phoenix before that epic comeback win in the final four.

A record-breaking home and away season and exhilarating Finals campaign so far has led Western United to the cusp of an historic achievement, and the work is not over yet.
