Western United returns to the pitch Friday; Newcastle match postponed

Western United’s away fixture against Newcastle Jets, fixtured for Wednesday January 19, has been postponed due to a rise in COVID-19 cases within the Jets squad.

The Club continues to work with Australian Professional Leagues and all the clubs to ensure the safety of the players, staff and supporters is at the forefront of every A-Leagues fixture.

United itself has recovered from a number of cases within the Club and is excited to return to the pitch on Friday January 21.

The Green and Black will next face Wellington Phoenix – though the match has been changed to a Wellington home fixture at WIN Stadium in Wollongong.

It will be United’s first match since Boxing Day, with the Jets game the fourth to be postponed throughout the first month of 2022 so far.

Players have been back on the training pitch with John Aloisi and the coaching staff and are looking to continue the strong start to the season, where United won four of its first six games.

With the COVID-19 situation right around the A-Leagues continuing to evolve, Western United will work with all relevant parties to reschedule postponed matches at the most appropriate time.

Western United’s next home match will be on Saturday January 29, a blockbuster clash against Melbourne City, and the Club is eager to get back in front of the Green and Black army.
