Western United is pleased to announce the signing of Kane Vidmar to a scholarship contract until the end of the 2024/25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
Vidmar, following in his father Tony and uncle Aurelio’s footsteps, has already exhibited the exceptional talent that runs through their bloodline and his undeniable potential to be a future star of Australian football.
The 19-year-old has emerged as one of the most talented young centre backs in the country representing Adelaide United’s Youth Team in the SA NPL and being called up for the Young Socceroos squad in 2022 for the first phase of qualification for the AFC U20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023™ Qualifiers.
General Manager Football Mal Impiombato said Vidmar characterised the type of young footballer he was seeking to be part of building the future of United.
“The club has been monitoring Kane through his performances in the NPL and we believe he has the capabilities to develop as a professional footballer under the guidance of our elite coaching team.
“This signing represents our commitment to developing and fostering Australian talent, and we welcome Kane to the Club and look forward to his bright future.”
Vidmar was elated to pen his first professional contract and looking forward to joining his new Club.
“I’m so grateful and stoked to be joining Western United. I’ve watched them since they started in the A-League and have always rated the way they go about things.
“I’ve obviously grown up with and admired the stories from the World Cup, so it’s a bit of a pinch-me moment to now have John (Aloisi) as my Head Coach.
“I just can’t wait to get started.”
Vidmar will join the A-League Men squad’s pre-season training as they build towards the Australia Cup Round of 32 match against Edgeworth Eagles FC in August.
