Western United to bring extra game to Ballarat in April

Western United

Western United has learnt its set of fixtures for the run-in to the end of the Isuzu UTE A-League Men season, with the Club bringing a third game to the Ballarat region in the 2021/22 campaign.

The fixture is slated for Saturday April 9 against Wellington Phoenix and will be an extra special occasion as Ballarat’s regional football facility at Morshead Park will play host to its first A-League Men match.

United has built a strong relationship with the Ballarat community through games at Mars Stadium across all three of its seasons so far, but the opportunity for Ballarat fans to enjoy the match at a fit for purpose, football-specific venue will generate great excitement as United continues its journey towards the end of the regular season.

The additional fixture means the Green and Black will play back-to-back games in Ballarat, returning to Mars Stadium to face Central Coast Mariners on Saturday April 2. Kick-off has been brought forward and is now set for 2:05pm AEDT.

United then heads to Tasmania for the second edition of the Macca’s Festival of Football. John Aloisi’s side will take on Perth Glory and Macarthur FC at UTAS Stadium on Saturday April 16 and Tuesday April 19 respectively.

That will then lead Western United into a three-game away stand to close the season, with a second meeting against Central Coast scheduled for Saturday April 30 at 5:05pm AEST at Central Coast Stadium.

A midweek trip to McDonald Jones Stadium to face Newcastle Jets will follow that on Wednesday May 4 before the final match of the season against Adelaide United.

Due to the number of postponed fixtures throughout the league this season, there has been an extra week added onto the end of the regular season to ensure all matches are played in time for the finals.

That means United’s home and away campaign will end on Sunday May 8, with an away trip to face Adelaide at Coopers Stadium.

With the full fixture list set out, Western United will look to carry its strong season to date into the final matches in search of silverware and a place in the finals.
