Western United fans will have the chance to watch the Green and Black in pre-season action against Bulleen Lions at City Vista Recreation Reserve next week.
The match will kick off at 7:30pm on Tuesday August 9, with free entry to any fans wishing to attend and get a glimpse of the Isuzu UTE A-League Men Champions.
City Vista has hosted Western United’s NPL 3 Men’s teams this year for training and home matches, as well as the weekly Women’s Development Squad sessions.
The venue has a strong connection to the Green and Black faithful, and this match will be a homecoming of sorts for the senior side, being the first friendly open to the public at City Vista in three years.
Western United’s first ever match was played at City Vista against Caroline Springs George Cross in August of 2019 before Geelong Soccer Club and Preston Lions visited the venue ahead of the Club’s inaugural campaign.
After United defeated Melbourne Victory in the Australia Cup Round of 32, this will be the first pre-season meeting against an opposition team and provide further preparation for the next round against Sydney United.
Bulleen Lions are currently competing in NPL 2, where they sit fifth on the table heading into the final two rounds of the domestic season.
John Aloisi will be eager to see his players continuing to improve their fitness and match sharpness as the side continues to build up to the opening round of the A-League Men season.
With two months remaining in the team’s pre-season schedule, this will provide a good early test for the squad to increase physical and technical tuning ahead of the competitive fixture list.
Fans will be able to enjoy a community football atmosphere and see their favourite Western United stars up close as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
