Western United trip to Sydney United locked in for August 14

Western United Australia Cup

Western United’s away trip to take on Sydney United in the Australia Cup Round of 16 has been confirmed.

The match will take place on Sunday August 14 at Sydney United’s home venue, Sydney United Sports Centre, with kick-off at 2:00pm AEST.

This will mark Western United’s first time competing in the Australia Cup Round of 16 after defeat against Wellington Phoenix at the Round of 32 stage last season.

John Aloisi’s men advanced to this round after a tough 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory on Wednesday night, with an own goal from George Timotheou and Lachie Wales’ eventual winner overcoming an equaliser from Jake Brimmer.

Sydney United, who finished in eighth place on the NPLW New South Wales table, defeated Monaro Panthers 3-0 on Wednesday to put their ball in the pot for the last 16 draw.

A place in the quarter-finals awaits the winner of this match, with the Australia Cup title drawing ever closer as the competition reaches its final rounds.

The match will be broadcast live on 10Play, so Western United fans will be able to tune in and support the Green and Black from home as Aloisi looks to take his side into the last eight.
