Western United and Melbourne Victory face off again
The clash is sure to be another thrilling instalment of this entertaining rivalry as Western United and Melbourne Victory go face to face again.
The previous 11 matches have had goals, drama, controversy and plenty of passion on and off the pitch. United narrowly holds the better of the head-to-head record with five wins to Victory’s four, while the sides have also drawn twice. The Green and Black also defeated Victory in the Australia Cup in August.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Fan sanctions in place for Boxing Day match
After the events of last week’s Melbourne Derby, sanctions will be in place surrounding the eligibility of patrons obtaining admission into AAMI Park.
As a result of sanctions handed down by Football Australia, only Western United members or United fans that purchased a ticket prior to 11am on Friday December 23 will be permitted into the venue.
Western United will make the event a safe, family-friendly and enjoyable one for all, with all focus turning to the players on the pitch creating an exciting football spectacle.
Josh Risdon back in the squad
John Aloisi will welcome Josh Risdon back into the side for this game with the right-back completing his one-match suspension.
Risdon is the only change to United’s extended 20-man squad, with Leo Lacroix still suspended and Steven Lustica the only injury absentee at present.
Neil Kilkenny is edging closer to 150 Isuzu UTE A-League appearances, while the likes of Aleksandar Prijovic, Tongo Doumbia and Tomoki Imai will look to keep building minutes in their respective returns to the pitch of late.
The Western Service Crew will be back to show their support for the team, taking up a spot back behind the goals at AAMI Park.
Get yourself behind the goal, bring all your mates and sing your hearts out all night to push the players on the pitch for the whole 90 minutes. Join the Crew and let your voice be heard on match day.
Tickets to the match were paused as off 11am on Friday 23 December, due to the sanctions on Melbourne Victory fan attendance.
As such, there will be no ticket sales at the gate on matchday, and only Western United members and fans that purchased a ticket prior to the above time will be permitted entry.
All eligible ticketholders are encouraged to arrive at the match early for ease of admission through security checks. Patrons can only enter through the gate stated on their ticket.
