Western United Cup nearing 40 registered teams

Just a fortnight remains until Western United launches the inaugural Western United Cup at Morshead Park in Ballarat, and 37 teams are now ready to take to the pitch.

As NPL and community seasons finish across the state, girls teams of all different ages are seeking to end their season on a high note with a weekend of fun and competitive football action.

Registrations are set to close on Monday September 19, so time is running out for any last-minute submissions ahead of the tournament.

The Club announced some changes to the competition format at the end of August, with the advent of Free Agent teams and a new Youth Women division, while each junior competition has also continued to rack up numbers.

The Western United Cup is set to begin on Thursday September 29 and take place over three consecutive days, finishing on Saturday October 1.

The unique girls-only tournament will bring together talented female footballers from around Victoria to compete against each other over the three days, with winners of each division receiving medals and trophy.

On the same day, the Western United Cup app will launch, providing registered players and teams with everything they need to know for the competition.

The Victorian State Government and City of Ballarat council continue to be pivotal supporters of the Western United Cup and will continue to be vital in United’s journey.

Western United’s A-League Men team has played matches at Mars Stadium in all three seasons since 2019/20 and added a game at Morshead Park last season.

The men’s team will continue its commitment to the region with two more matches at Mars Stadium confirmed for this season, while the inaugural Liberty A-League Women team will also hope to stage matches in Ballarat this season.
